My wife, Kathy, has been looking for an artistic outlet for some time. While
she had a full-time, high-pressure job, there did not seem to be enough free
time to pursue her interests. After retiring and moving to this island paradise,
she supported my efforts by developing this web site and has handled all of
the "book work" associated with the sale of artwork; but, she continued to
search for something to give her that artistic outlet.
Since we both appreciate the beauty of Hawaiian Koa Wood, it was a natural
decision to try to develop our own line of Koa Wood jewelry. I had plenty of
left-over pieces from my wood carvings.
The pieces on this website were designed for a close friend in California, who
happens to love turtles and the color purple. Later we designed a pendant for
another close friend here in Maui who prefers simple and small pendants
hanging from short necklaces.
Notice the differences in the coloring. Koa wood is well known for its beautiful
grain and color differences even in wood taken from the same plank or tree.
These prototypes are very simple designs created to test the durability of the
materials and coatings used in the development of the jewelry. We have now
received feedback on this jewelry and suggestions for future designs. All this
time, Kathy has been designing other jewelry pieces on paper. Check with us
again in the next few months to see what we come up with.
